From what I understood, the lady was also immume all the time, since she had never been at the survivor's camp, I think they weren't even shure there actually was such thing.

i much prefered the original ending, the whole point was that they had been turned and had lost all humanity and reason. i think if it ever did somehow happen, i would expect the first ending rather than the second, the second seems too easy for the problem he was faced with throughout the entire film.
