Google Tech TalksJune 26, 2007ABSTRACTAn electronic book is defined as a digital book that not only captures the affordances of a physical book, but also transcends the limitations of its paper counterpart. There is much debate as to whether the use of the book metaphor is appropriate for an electronic document. User studies suggest that current popular document presentations (HTML and PDF) are not always the most convenient, or the most comfortable, for the reader. On the other hand, while realistic physically-based computer models of books have been around for years, they are rarely deployed in practice. I suggest that this happens not because of any proven drawbacks, but is purely...

what if your ebook falls in a puddle? can you dry the inside of it and still read it everytime? can you read it for hours with ruining your eyesight? will this ebook actualy provide the same exprience as a paper book? sure the paper book takes wood but the ebook still requires power, metals to make it and plastic for wiring on the other hand the paper book only needs glue, paper and ink and good author putting words into it. I will side with the paper book and if they get heavy,it's exersize.

Who cares?!? I've never been reading an e-book and felt the need for "realistic" page turning. They held a presentation for this junk?

I think anyone would know that the user experience in reading and flipping the pages of a real book is not just turning one page but the convenience of being able to flip through many pages back and forth easily using one, two or many fingers. Further, one can hold the book in any orientation one wishes. Any kind of computer simulated page turning will not provide the same experience if you are doing just one page turn at a time.

Almost everything she said is either obsolete or of such an esoteric academic nature that no one in the real world will care a bit.In reality, current readers using e-paper are far more convenient and environmentally sound that trying to carry around even three or four paper books. Almost all new readers can hold hundreds or even thousands of ebooks. Case closed
