Is this the sort of basic training course that everyone in the army needs to go through, even if they just plan to go into artilery, tank, logistics, etc?

The reason they aren't assholes is because they are range cadre not drill sergeants. Notice the pin on the sergeants uniform at 0:36. The range cadre do more instructing than discipling.

Somehow stupid...Field Manual of Land Forces of Soviet Army supports using the defensive grenades against the enemy at ~30 meters...

Well, the drill sargents seem a lot less like assholes than in movies like Full Metal Jacket, but they're still dead serious.

grenades are solid metal with explosives inside. they're way too heavy to throw overhand like a baseball, and you want to arc it up to make the timing correct. you'd rather throw too far away than too close.... a baseball won't blow up and kill you if you toss too short. |
