Wow, I love Piper and the REFORMERS...guys look, the prosperity gospel is such because it makes money for those who preach it. They are the ones "prospering". Look, what it all boils down to is that God is the keeper of life and death. he gives and takes away, the sovereign will of God directs all. Ask till your blue in the face, only from the hand of God do we receive. Oh, yeah almost forgot, ask paul (whose back was scourged 5 times) about prosperity...

The word PROSPERITY in this sense is the Hebrew word (shalowm)&we all know what that means: complete, safety, soundness in body, welfare, health, peace, quiet, tranquillity, contentment peace, friendship of human relationship with God esp in covenant relationship, peace from war. really? you think it's about going broke on purpose? the whole point of what John Piper was saying is when prosperity becomes the main point of the gospel, it no longer is the gospel. It's not saying be poor on purpose.
